Senior Software Development Engineer, Robot Platform Security, Fauna

Fauna Robotics is building capable, safe, and delightful robots for everyday life. We are hiring a Senior Software Development Engineer to lead security engineering for our robot platform. You will drive the security of the robot from its boot chain to how it handles data. The ideal candidate has shipped security features on connected devices. They make sound tradeoffs between protection, customer experience, and delivery speed when requirements are still evolving. They raise the bar across teams by building secure defaults and spreading knowledge of best practices. They want to build a new kind of device and are excited about the challenges and opportunities in bringing it into our lives. Key job responsibilities - Own security engineering for Fauna's robot platform: boot chain, operating system, on-device software, and updates - Build security into the robot's OS and software: secure boot, OS hardening, service isolation and access control, and on-device secrets - Design how the robot handles what it senses, including on-device processing and data minimization - Build secure defaults into the robot's shared libraries and its build and release pipeline - Lead secure design and review of Fauna's cloud services in partnership with Amazon's security and privacy teams - Lead incident response for the robot platform and drive fixes to root cause About the team Fauna Robotics, an Amazon company, is building capable, safe, and genuinely delightful robots for everyday life. Our goal is simple: make robots people actually want to live and interact with in everyday human spaces. We believe that future won't arrive until building for robotics becomes far more accessible. Today, too much effort is spent reinventing the fundamentals. We're changing that by developing tightly integrated hardware and software systems that make it faster, safer, and more intuitive to create real-world robotic products. Our work spans the full stack: mechanical design, control systems, dynamic modeling, and intelligent software. The focus is not just functionality, but experience. We're building robots that feel responsive, expressive, and genuinely useful. At Fauna, you'll work at the frontier of this space, helping define how robots move, manipulate, and interact with people in natural environments. It's an opportunity to solve hard problems across hardware and software with a team focused on making robotics accessible and joyful to build. If you care about making robotics real for everyone and building systems that are as delightful as they are capable, we're interested in hearing from you. - 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience - 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience - 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience - Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team - Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent practical experience - Experience designing and shipping security or privacy controls in production software, such as authentication, encryption, key management, or access control - Experience in robotics, automotive, connected home, or another domain where software runs on hardware in the field - Experience securing embedded Linux or Android at the OS level: SELinux or AppArmor policy, service sandboxing, kernel hardening, or hardware-backed key storage - Experience with privacy engineering for camera, microphone, or location data, including on-device processing, anonymization, retention, and deletion - Experience with secure boot, device identity, or OTA update signing - Experience designing systems against a threat model and taking them through security review - Experience building and operating production services on AWS or another major cloud provider Amazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status, disability, or other legally protected status.
