The Dutch highly skilled migrant route for tech roles

The Netherlands is one of the fastest places to move to for a tech job. There is no lottery and no labour-market test. The one hard rule is that your employer must be a recognised sponsor with the IND, and your salary must clear a threshold that depends on your age.

Checked October 2026

Only recognised sponsors can hire you on this route

The IND keeps a public register of organisations recognised as sponsors for highly skilled migrants. Close to 13,000 organisations are on it, from Adyen and Booking-sized employers to five-person startups.

If an employer is not on the register, it cannot bring you in as a highly skilled migrant, however much it wants to. That is why every Dutch role on VisaRoles is checked against the register, and recognised employers are marked on the listing.

The 2026 salary thresholds

The IND sets a gross monthly salary, excluding holiday allowance, that the job must pay. From 1 July to 31 December 2026:

  • 30 or older: €5,942 a month
  • Under 30: €4,357 a month
  • Recent graduates (within 3 years of a degree) or after an orientation year: €3,122 a month
  • EU Blue Card instead: €5,942 a month, or €4,754 with the reduced criterion

Practical tips

  • Check the register before you apply, not after the offer. It takes ten seconds and saves weeks.
  • If you are under 30, the lower threshold makes junior and mid-level offers far more workable than in most countries.
  • Amsterdam has most of the roles, but Eindhoven, Rotterdam and Utrecht employers sponsor too.
  • Many Dutch tech teams work in English. A posting written in Dutch usually means the team works in Dutch.

Stop guessing which employers can hire you.
