Sr Software Engineer- Simulation, Fauna

Fauna uses simulation to train robots, evaluate their behavior, and develop new capabilities before deploying them in the real world. We’re looking for a Simulation Software Engineer to build the environments, tools, and systems that make this possible—from generating diverse virtual worlds to testing robot behavior and running simulation at scale. You’ll partner with scientists, robotics engineers, and technical artists to expand what robots can experience in simulation and what our teams can build with it. Your work could span procedural scene generation, automated evaluation, interactive experiences, and remotely hosted simulation. We welcome backgrounds in robotics, real-time systems, simulation, and scalable data infrastructure. Key job responsibilities - Develop workflows for generating, configuring, and managing diverse scenes, assets, and scenarios. - Extend simulation to support robot capabilities and interactions among robots, people, and dynamic environments. - Make simulation experiments reproducible and easy to inspect, with tools for automated evaluation, debugging, and regression testing. - Build reliable pipelines for generating, processing, and managing simulation data. - Scale simulation through automation, workload orchestration, and remote hosting, supporting both batch workloads and interactive use. - Partner with scientists and technical artists to improve simulation performance, usability, and fidelity to real robot behavior (sim2real). About the team Fauna Robotics, an Amazon company, is building capable, safe, and genuinely delightful robots for everyday life. Our goal is simple: make robots people actually want to live and interact with in everyday human spaces. We believe that future won’t arrive until building for robotics becomes far more accessible. Today, too much effort is spent reinventing the fundamentals. We’re changing that by developing tightly integrated hardware and software systems that make it faster, safer, and more intuitive to create real-world robotic products. Our work spans the full stack: mechanical design, control systems, dynamic modeling, and intelligent software. The focus is not just functionality, but experience. We’re building robots that feel responsive, expressive, and genuinely useful. At Fauna, you’ll work at the frontier of this space, helping define how robots move, manipulate, and interact with people in natural environments. It’s an opportunity to solve hard problems across hardware and software with a team focused on making robotics accessible and joyful to build. If you care about making robotics real for everyone and building systems that are as delightful as they are capable, we’d like to hear from you. - 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience - 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience - 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience - Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team - Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent - Experience developing robotics software, simulation systems, real-time applications, or scalable data pipelines. - 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience - Experience with robotics simulation frameworks or real-time 3D engines, such as Isaac Sim, Isaac Lab, MuJoCo, Unreal Engine, or Unity. - Experience with procedural scene generation, asset management, sensor simulation, or rendering. - Experience with distributed systems, cloud-hosted simulation, or infrastructure for model inference and evaluation at scale. - Experience building evaluation frameworks or tools for inspecting, replaying, and testing complex system behavior. - Familiarity with sim2real transfer, domain randomization, or evaluating robot capabilities across varied environments. - Working knowledge of 3D math, including coordinate transforms, quaternions, and camera models.
